Kids Charity of Tampa Bay would like to thank everyone in the Tampa Bay community for making the Annual Gary Nix Memorial Bash on the Blue such a huge success.
This event brings landlubbers and fishermen together to support the community initiatives of Kids Charity and raise critical funds for the abused, abandoned and neglected children we serve.
Over 600 attendees filled the boat facility at Tampa Harbour on Thursday, November 8th for the pre tournament party.  Guests enjoyed mouth-watering cuisine from Alessi’s, Beef O’Brady’s, Catering by the Family, Holy Hog, Hula Bay, Steven Roberts desserts and Tastes of Tampa while being entertained by DJ Gene Cannon, as luxury cars and boats on display fueled their imagination and dreams. Silent and live auction items were snapped up quickly; with one lucky high bidder taking home a weeklong trip to Aspen.
An amazing sunrise ushered in the fishing tournament on Friday, November 9th.  26 boats left the docks at Tampa Harbour ready to stake their claim on the tackle gear and prizes.  As the results of the day were turned in and tallied, participants enjoyed a post tournament picnic at Duke’s Retired Surfer’s Island Bar. At the end of the day, 3rd place went to Brian Marrssey, 2nd place to Andres Calles, 1st place to Sean Abene with A. J. Tagg taking home the Master Angler title along with the coveted trophy and prizes.
Gary Nix was only 16 years old when he passed away. He was a young man with a big heart and dedicated to working with children. He was a fun loving boy who made a lasting impression on his community. The Gary Nix Memorial Bash on the Blue began as a neighborhood effort to heal and to honor Gary. What began as a fun fishing tournament has grown into an event that helps Kids Charity of Tampa Bay improve the lives of foster children throughout the Tampa Bay area.
